United Kingdom
In the United Kingdom he worked on the update and preparation of local transport plans, as well as leading a team of engineers on a number of urban transportation schemes including intersection upgrades, traffic management solutions including cycling measures and bus priority mechanisms.
The team was responsible for the planning, including consultation exercise and analysis of transportation data, preliminary design and costing, detail design and cost estimates, and implementation management. In many cases the traffic management schemes were coupled with footway and carriageway maintenance, in order to minimise disruption to the public.
Cape Town / South Africa
Prior to this Faisal worked in local government in Cape Town and East London, where he was involved in project management of transport interchanges and road widening schemes.
This involved drafting of the consultant brief, appointment and management of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals for the planning, design and implementation management.
Athlone, Koeberg, Maitland, Philippi, Joe Gqabi, and Eyona in Gugulethu are examples of some interchanges worked on.
The City has a number of road improvement schemes, and his role was to review dormant schemes by managing the project using Council’s internal resources.
At the East London Municipality, he had the role of Senior Traffic Engineer where he was involved in Traffic Impact Assessments, area wide traffic calming schemes for Buffalo Flats, and area wide signage improvement schemes.
Prior to his stint at local government Faisal worked for Stewart Scott Consulting Engineers in Cape Town and East London. He was part of the design team for the dualling and upgrade of Stellenbosch Arterial Road as well as part of the site supervision team.
He was also involved in the preparation of the Western Cape Status Quo Report and the preparation of the Passenger Transport Plan: Status Quo phases for the Amatola, Kei and Wild Coast areas in the Eastern Cape.
Asakhe Consulting Engineers has undertaken a number of Traffic Impact Assessments for private clients since 2005. It also had a 3 year contract with the City of Cape Town to provide specialist traffic engineering expertise in respect of traffic calming, traffic safety and intersection upgrades.
It was part of the team that undertook the transport planning for the FIFA 2010 Soccer world Cup. During the implementation of the games, Asakhe was responsible for managing the volunteers in terms of their placement and rotation.
Most recently, Asakhe Consulting has been working within the field of Access Management and Arterial Management Plans.
